Ang Chew Mee Sua (Red Wine Vermicelli)

Seems today there’s lots of planning for good and yummy food from my friends. One of the discussion consist of Ang Chew Mee Sua aka Red Wine Vermicelli.

As the place mentioned is not far away from my office, I decided to go check out the dish during lunch time cause I’ve never try it before. The stall is located in the coffeeshop at the junction of Burma Road and Kedah Road, right beside Fatty Boy Chicken Rice.

As per the blog that my friend has email to me earlier on about the Ang Chew Mee Sua , there have been some changes involved.

Firstly, there is no longer any "ANG CHEW MEE SUAH" wording written in the plate on top of the stall. There’s only the Chinese wordings there. So for those who don’t know how to read those Chinese words, make sure you recognise those Chinese characters. Secondly, the price is no longer RM 4.00 but have increased to RM 4.50. An additional of 50 cents if want to add an egg. Oh ya… she’s also selling Char Koay Teow. I guess demand for this Ang Chew Mee Sua is not that good.

After I tried out the dish, I check from the net for more info about this dish. Seems this dish is a Hock Chiew’s dish. A confinement food and also a dish for birthdays. There’s also a recipe in how to prepare the dish.

For once, this dish is a bit different compare to the other dishes that we usually take. As the wine they used is red fermented rice wine, the taste of the soup is slightly bitter. Compare to what was mentioned in the blog earlier on, I did not find any sweet taste in the soup. Might be the chef a bit generous with the wine, hence making the soup slightly bitter. The chicken meat is tender but does not have the taste of the red wine deep into the meat. I guess the dish is below my expectation. But then it is something different which is a good experience to try.

As we have more plans to go check out other food this weekend, I hope that it will be better than my expectation.

Look forward to check out those YUMMY looking and DELICIOUS food…. ;)

Yeah, you’re right. Too much of the wine can make the soup bitter. When the Uncle at the economy rice stall kar liu for me the soup also ended up bitter.
